The 5 Steps to Reach Your Exercise Goals

  1. Motivation: What is your “Why?” What is your reason for starting this journey? Write that reason down. Have it somewhere visible and remind yourself everyday why you are working out.

2. Goal: Write down your goal. Make sure it is realistic and attainable see my post on the Basics of Exercise Science.

3. Create a Plan: What are you going to do to reach this goal? Write out a detailed plan of how you are going to achieve your goal(s).  If you sign up for my email list, I have a document to help get you started.

4. Be Consistent but adaptable: Fitness goals are deceptively simple. All you need is to create a plan and stick to it.  Treat it like a budget. Programs can and should be looked at and possibly changed every month.

5. Plan for bumps in the road: Remember the saying, “If you want to make God laugh, make a plan.” Things are going to go wrong and consistency is going to ebb and flow.  Be adaptable and make sure you don’t beat yourself up for not sticking 100% to your workout plan for the day or week. Also, there will be achievement plateaus. Reassess your goals to make sure what you are doing is still realistic.
